Roof Repair by a Local, Licensed Contractor Since 1997

Adept Construction, Inc. is a family-owned, Illinois-licensed roofing contractor (No. 104.011123) that has repaired roofs across DuPage County and the neighboring parts of Cook, Will and Kane counties since 1997, from three offices: 27W225 79th Street in Naperville, 6509 Hathaway Lane in Downers Grove and 300 E. Plymouth Street in Villa Park. Our roof repair services cover roof leak repair, storm and hail roof damage repair, missing and wind-lifted shingles, failed flashing, ice-dam damage and flat-roof membranes, on homes (residential roof repair) and commercial buildings, as an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor. Active leaks and storm openings get emergency tarping first, usually within 24 hours, and every repair starts with a free roof inspection and a written, itemized estimate.

Near one of our offices? The page written for your town has the local details: roof repair in Naperville and roof repair in Downers Grove, or visit our Naperville office and Downers Grove office pages. For the rest of the county, see roofing in DuPage County. We also repair roofs in Villa Park, Hinsdale, Lombard, Wheaton, Aurora, Lemont and Homer Glen — see the full service area.

What We Repair

Leaks, shingles, flashing, valleys, ice dams, flat roofs and more

01

Roof leaks

We trace a leak from the ceiling stain back to the entry point — a pipe boot, chimney or skylight flashing, a nail pop, a valley — and repair the source, not the stain. See roof leak repair for how we trace and fix leaks. Our roof leak detection guide explains what to look for first.

02

Shingle repair and replacement

Missing, cracked, curled or wind-lifted asphalt shingles, replaced individually or by section and color-matched as closely as the original run allows. On an older roof we tell you plainly whether a repair is worth it.

03

Storm and hail damage

Hail bruising, wind-lifted shingles and tree-limb strikes, inspected, photographed and documented for your insurance claim. Details on the storm damage page.

04

Chimney, skylight and flashing repair

Failed step flashing, counter-flashing, cracked crowns and skylight seals are a common source of persistent leaks; we reseal, re-flash or replace. See our chimney flashing repair guide.

05

Valley repair

Valleys carry the most water on the roof and fail first when the metal or the shingle overlap does. Our roof valley repair guide covers the common failures.

07

Flat and low-slope roof repair

EPDM, TPO and modified bitumen membranes on commercial buildings and flat-roofed additions — seam failures, punctures, ponding and flashing. See flat roofing and our modified bitumen repair guide.

08

Composite and cedar shake roofs

Loose or cracked Brava composite cedar shake and wear on older cedar shake roofs. We inspect the roof and tell you whether a repair will hold or the section needs replacing. See cedar shake roofing and composite roofing.

09

Small jobs

A few shingles, a pipe boot, a loose piece of flashing — our handyman roof repair service sends one technician instead of a crew.

10

Gutters and downspouts

Sagging, separated or overflowing gutters push water back under the shingles; we look at them during the free roof inspection and can quote gutter work at the same time.

Storm and Hail Damage Roof Repair Across DuPage County

The National Weather Service Chicago office in Romeoville issues the severe thunderstorm warnings for DuPage, Will, Cook and Kane counties, and after a warned storm Adept Construction inspects, tarps, documents and repairs roofs across the county. NWS calls a thunderstorm severe at 1-inch (quarter-size) hail or 58 mph winds, and hail and wind at that level can damage asphalt shingles in ways you cannot see from the ground. On March 30, 2026, NWS Chicago storm reports logged 1.00 to 1.75 inch hail at Oak Brook, 1.75 inch hail north of Hinsdale and 1.50 inch hail north-northwest of Downers Grove. A fallen limb is obvious. Either way we photograph every hit, write the scope your insurer needs and meet the adjuster on site when asked. The storm damage page explains the process; our guide to roof insurance claims in Illinois explains what adjusters look for.

Licensed, Insured and Manufacturer-Certified

Adept Construction holds Illinois roofing contractor license No. 104.011123, issued under the Roofing Industry Licensing Act and verifiable on the IDFPR roofing contractor page. We are an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor and also install CertainTeed Landmark Pro shingles and Brava composite cedar shake; for siding work we are a VSI Certified Installer. Every repair is quoted in writing with the scope itemized before work starts. Our workmanship is backed by a 10-year warranty, in addition to any manufacturer warranty on materials, and we go over the coverage for your repair at the free inspection.

Signs You May Need Roof Repair

What to look for before a small problem becomes a big one

01

Damaged or missing shingles

Curled, cracked, bald or missing shingles let water under the roof. It shows up as an asphalt roof ages, or after a hail or wind storm at any age.

02

Water stains on ceilings or walls

A stain rarely sits under the leak. Water enters at a flashing, boot or nail, runs along the underlayment or a rafter, and shows up several feet away. We trace it back rather than patching where the stain is.

03

Granules in the gutters

Coarse black grit in the gutters or at the downspout outlet is shingle surface washing off. A little is normal on a new roof; a lot on an older roof means the shingles are near the end.

04

Higher heating and cooling bills

Heat building in a poorly vented attic in summer, or escaping through it in winter, shows up on the utility bill before it shows up on the ceiling. Ask us to look at the attic ventilation during the free inspection.

05

Animals in the attic

Raccoons, squirrels and birds get in through soft fascia, rotted soffit and lifted shingles. The entry point is a roof repair; the animal is a separate call.

06

Daylight or sagging in the attic

Light through the roof boards means a hole; a sag between rafters means wet, weakened decking. Both are repair-now, not repair-later.

Asphalt shingle roof repair in progress

Repair or Replace? How We Decide

The decision comes down to three things: the condition of the roof as a whole, how much of its surface is damaged, and whether the damage is one event or a pattern. An otherwise sound roof with one leak, a few missing shingles or a flashing failure gets a repair. A worn roof shedding granules across most slopes, with several damaged areas, more than one leak or hail damage across most of its surface is usually better replaced — and if the hail damage is widespread, the replacement is often an insurance claim. Adept Construction inspects at no charge and puts the recommendation in writing; when it is a replacement, our roof replacement service page covers the process.

How much of the roof is affected?

Damage confined to one area of a roof that is otherwise sound is a repair. Damage spread across several slopes, or damage that keeps recurring in new places, means the whole roof is failing at the same rate and repairs will not keep up. Wind can strip shingles from one slope and leave the rest untouched; hail hits every slope facing the storm. We show you where the damage is, with photos, so you can see which case you have.

Can You Replace Just a Few Shingles?

Yes, in most cases. Replacing a few shingles restores a sound roof after wind or a limb strike, and it is the right call whenever the surrounding shingles are still flexible and holding their granules. The color will not match perfectly — the original run has weathered — and on an older roof the shingles next to the repair may crack when they are lifted, which is the point at which we tell you a section or the whole roof is the better spend. Adept Construction has repaired and replaced roofs across DuPage County since 1997; we know the age and condition of the housing stock here, and the estimate says which case yours is.

Why a Small Roof Leak Becomes an Expensive Repair

A roof leak does not stay the same size. Water that reaches the decking rots it, water that reaches the insulation ruins it, and the EPA says water-damaged areas need to be dried within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold. A small repair this month can become a decking replacement next season. Call the nearest office — Naperville (630) 360-2730, Downers Grove (630) 964-8708 or Villa Park (630) 782-9736 — or request an estimate.

What Roof Repair Costs

A roof repair is priced by what failed, how much of the roof it affects, the pitch and height of the roof, and whether decking underneath is wet. A single-visit shingle, boot or flashing repair costs a fraction of a replacement; widespread hail damage is usually an insurance-covered replacement rather than a repair. Adept Construction gives a written, itemized estimate before any work starts. Typical ranges by repair type — including sagging roof, leak and shingle repairs — are in our roof repair cost guide, or request an exact quote.

How a Roof Repair Works, Step by Step

Every Adept Construction roof repair, from a few shingles to storm damage across a whole slope, follows the same seven steps.

  1. Call or book online. Call Naperville (630) 360-2730, Downers Grove (630) 964-8708 or Villa Park (630) 782-9736, or book a free roof inspection. We call to confirm a time.
  2. Emergency tarp, if needed. An active leak or a storm opening gets tarped first, usually within 24 hours, so no more water gets in.
  3. Free inspection. We trace the leak or damage back to where it starts, not where the stain shows, and photograph what we find.
  4. Written, itemized estimate. You get the scope, the price and our repair-or-replace recommendation in writing. For storm damage we write the scope your insurer needs and meet the adjuster on site when asked.
  5. Permit check. Naperville and Downers Grove don’t require a permit to replace shingles on a house; unincorporated DuPage County requires one for any tear-off, and Naperville requires one for wood roofs and sealed membranes. We check the rule for your address.
  6. The repair. An Illinois-licensed crew fixes the source of the problem, whether that is a shingle, a pipe boot, flashing, a valley or a flat-roof seam.
  7. Warranty. The work is backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty, plus any manufacturer warranty on the materials.

Just a few shingles or a pipe boot? Our handyman roof repair visit handles small jobs with one technician.

Gerry came out and did an estimate the next day after I called. Among all the roofers we talked to, he was our favorite. He understood our concerns about each item we wanted to work on and the solutions he provided chimed in with the way we preferred to resolve the problems. His quote was not the lowest nor the highest, but had a reasonable price that we felt comfortable to pay and believed the project could be done well at. Also his quote was detailed, showing the process they were gonna perform and materials they were gonna use, as well as the price for each item. So we could decide what item we wanted do this time and easily figured out the total cost of them (The quote suggested to replace the gutter which was really old. But we decided to do it next time when replacing the roof). He and his office were responsive to my emails when I had questions about the quote. After I signed the contract, Gerry and two of his guys came out within a week. The two contractors worked the whole day and finished everything! It has been 1.5 months since then. We went through several storms. We don't see any leak so far. They did a good job!

Roof Repair FAQs

How much does roof repair cost?

A roof repair is priced by what failed and how much of the roof is affected: a single-visit shingle, flashing or pipe-boot repair costs far less than a section replacement, and widespread hail damage usually becomes an insurance-covered replacement. Adept Construction provides a free written, itemized estimate; typical ranges are in our roof repair cost guide.

Do you offer emergency roof repair?

Yes. Adept Construction provides emergency tarping and temporary repairs across DuPage County for active leaks, limb strikes and storm openings, usually within 24 hours, with the permanent repair scheduled once the weather allows. Call the Naperville office at (630) 360-2730, Downers Grove at (630) 964-8708 or Villa Park at (630) 782-9736.

Who should I call when my roof is leaking?

Call an Illinois-licensed roofer. In DuPage County, call Adept Construction’s nearest office: Naperville (630) 360-2730, Downers Grove (630) 964-8708 or Villa Park (630) 782-9736. We tarp an active leak first, usually within 24 hours, then inspect for free and repair the source. Until we arrive, move belongings away from the drip and catch the water. More on roof leak repair.

What areas do you repair roofs in?

Adept Construction repairs roofs across DuPage County and nearby communities in Cook, Will and Kane counties from offices in Naperville, Downers Grove and Villa Park — including Hinsdale, Lombard, Wheaton, Oak Brook, Lemont, Homer Glen, Aurora, Lisle, Woodridge and Westmont. See roofing in DuPage County or the full service area.

Will my insurance cover the repair?

Insurance typically covers sudden storm damage — hail, wind, a fallen limb — and not wear from age. Adept Construction documents storm damage with photos and a written scope, and meets the adjuster on site when asked. Our guide to roof insurance claims in Illinois explains what adjusters look for.

Do I need a permit for a roof repair?

It depends on where the house is. Naperville does not require a permit for asphalt shingle work that leaves the sheathing in place, but it does for metal, wood, slate and sealed-membrane roofs. The Village of Downers Grove does not require one to replace shingles on a residential property. In unincorporated DuPage County, a permit is required only when roofing is torn off. Adept Construction checks the rule for your address and pulls the permit when one is needed.

How long does a roof repair take?

It depends on what failed, how much of the roof it affects, the roof’s pitch and the weather. We tell you what to expect at the free inspection, and an active leak gets tarped first, usually within 24 hours, so the house stays dry while the permanent repair is scheduled.

Can you repair just part of a roof?

Yes, when the damage is confined to one area of a roof that is otherwise sound: a few shingles, one slope after wind, a flashing or a valley. When damage is spread across several slopes or keeps showing up in new places, a repair will not keep up and a replacement is the better spend. The free inspection shows which case yours is.

Do you do small roof repairs?

Yes. For a few shingles, a pipe boot or loose flashing, Adept Construction’s handyman roof repair service sends one technician rather than a full crew.

Do you repair commercial and flat roofs?

Yes. Adept Construction repairs flat and low-slope EPDM, TPO and modified bitumen roofs on commercial buildings across DuPage County. See commercial roofing.

How do I know whether to repair or replace my roof?

An otherwise sound roof with one leak, a few damaged shingles or a flashing problem needs repair. A worn roof shedding granules, with several leaks or hail damage across most of its surface, is usually better replaced. Adept Construction inspects at no charge and gives the recommendation in writing; see roof replacement.

Is Adept Construction licensed to repair roofs in Illinois?

Yes. Adept Construction holds Illinois roofing contractor license No. 104.011123 from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, and is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor. Verify any Illinois roofer on the IDFPR roofing page.

What warranty comes with a roof repair?

Adept Construction offers a 10-year workmanship warranty, in addition to any manufacturer warranty on the materials used. We go over the coverage for your specific repair at the free inspection.
